Carl Rittberger, Sr., grandpa, was born in Lorch, Germany in 1881. He schooled in Meat Trade School before coming the United States in the late 1800's.
From a small retail trade acquired through a stand in the Zanesville City Market, he expanded into the wholesale business at his farm on Lutz Lane, where he began September 22, 1910.
In the early days grandpa road on horseback throughout the county buying livestock along the way, and drove the animals back to the plant by horse. As his business grew he purchased farms, some 800 acres and raised some of his own livestock so he could stay up with the demand. Today we still raise cattle on over 450 acres of land.
Even in these modern times, we still smoke meat with hickory wood and use the same recipes that Grandpa pleased his customers with from the start.

For decades our family has known in our hearts and minds that our products are superior to other like products. Only recently, we had nutritional values done on our products, and now we have the scientific evidence to back it up. Across the board our products have better flavor and also great nutritional values.
Recently we have expanded our market area to the Cincinnati, and Cleveland areas. The response has been great! It's all about getting the customer to taste the product! I personally have demonstrated our products and simply ask the customer if they would like to try the best they have ever tasted. 100% of the time, they are shocked at the flavor of the product.
I have been apprehensive about saying "Our products are the best"! I don't want people to think I'm arrogant. It's not arrogance, it's passion! Our products are Simply the Best!
